So who knew that fat was poison? It's not just an inactive, unattractive blubber; it's an actual living and toxic entity! Fat cells die constantly and when they die they release toxic by-products that cause chronic disease, accelerate aging and promotes the production of bad chemicals (think cancer cells!).
But there is good news! Muscle is medicine for the body! So the more muscle you can develop the healthier your body will be. Muscle burns calories even at rest.
I am amazed that the connection between food and illness hasn't been widespread. Women are afraid to use hair dye while they are pregnant but will drink soda that is loaded with high fructose corn syrup; a chemical, exposing their fetus and themselves. Why? Because the grocery store industry, a multi-BILLION dollar corporation. pays for commercials that tells us HFCS is made from corn and no different than table sugar, in moderation. But corn isn't good for you and neither is table sugar (EVEN IN MODERATION). Yeah, I know I've talked about this before, but they show that commercial more than once so it's only fair I get to talk about the negatives and the truth more than once.
I'm very amazed that most people would rather take a pill than change their diets. For example, I know a guy who'd rather take cholesterol medication "than give up the fine foods" he enjoys (donuts, fried chicken and french fries). I know even more people who'd rather take antacids rather than stop eating theoffending foods. These are people who have been told by medical doctors to stop eating these foods and they still can't have self control. So I guess I shouldn't be too surprised, however I am still baffled.
There are hundreds of books on diet, nutrition and exercise but only a handful with any actual facts - the others are full of "scientific data" that they have developed to manipulate and prove their point. I love when someone wants to debate with me and the first words out of their mouth is "they say" and they have no clue who "they" are. Or all the "doctors say" that's a good one too, most doctors have no clue and have never been to a nutrition class or studied the effects of food on the body. They don't have time. Once they are through school and licensed to practice they hand out prescriptions (that they recieve royalty on),(that helps) pay their insurance fees and try to stay in the lines without getting sued. Could you imagine if the average American took "little Jimmy" to the pediatrician for unexplained pain and the doctor suggested "little Jimmy" has a poor diet and needs to eat only foods on the approved Paleo list! And when "little Jimmy's" mom wouldn't take the time to make the meals or put her foot down to make him eat those foods and "little Jimmy" had a serious allergic reaction that resulted in difficulty breathing, a serious rash and damage to his kidneys the backlash would be for "little Jimmy's" pediatrician?!? The doctor just wants to pay his medical school bills and go home to his/her family. Who can blame them. You expose yourself to the public enough and you can only wish that left to their own devices, the herd will thin. I've come in contact with way too many people that should have been thrown off a cliff at birth.
So why don't more Americans take action and educate themselves properly about how they nurish their bodies and keep themselves from serious illness? I think it's because Americans are used to the easy way out I.E. a pill - hell let's be honest most people would rather be on disability (warranted or not) so they don't have to work. Laziness is ingrained in our DNA and in our modern society it is all too easy to let lazy run your life. But a more serious question would be, why are YOU taking your diet more serious? You have somehow managed to wonder in to my rants and raves....I mean blog, so you were actively asking me, someone I know or googled "Paleo" and stumbled in here.
That's a question only you can answer. Good luck with your decision
